NDC chairman assures of gov’t’s swift action to replace the late DCE for Ahafo Ano South West
Mankranso (Ash) Oct 21, GNA – Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, national chairman of the NDC, has assured the people of Ahafo-Ano South West of the government’s swift action to replace Mr. Abubakar Sedik, the late District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
He said the government was working with key stakeholders such as Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister and Mr. Augustus Nana Akwasi, the Ashanti regional NDC Chairman, to review names and suggestions that had come up for the replacement process to begin immediately.
Speaking at the final funeral rites (“Adua”) of the late Mr. Abubakar Sedik, at Mankranso, Mr Nketia noted that the replacement was crucial to safeguard the development projects and legacy the late DCE initiated.
He, therefore, appealed to all party faithful to remain calm and avoid internal disagreements over the position, since succession disputes could undermine party unity, government’s concentration and development as well as the quest to preserve the late DCE’S legacy.
The National Chairman however, urged the DCEs in the Ashanti region and beyond to support the family and children of their late colleague in honour of his memory and service.
“We don’t want to hear about disputes or declaration of interests or any form of competition relating to the replacement of the late Sedik after this funeral”, he stated.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, described the demise of the late DCE as painful due to his dedication to duty from grassroots service to constituency chairmanship and 2024 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) in the area.
He said his time of service was brief but contained legacy and aspirations for the district, party and nation, adding that he would be remembered for being a unifier, dedicated and humble servant.
Mr. Koo Broni, the NDC constituency chairman announced the creation of a support fund for the children of the late DCE, which had already yielded an amount of GHS 1.5 million, and appealed for both financial and material support from the public.
The DCE passed away on September 20, 2026, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after a short illness.
His funeral brought together traditional, religious and political leaders, technocrats, businesses executives and the public.
