MySol Invests R30 Million in Chiller Lager Shares, Leaving Mac G Surprised
MySol, the musician and entrepreneur, says he has invested R30 million in Chiller Lager and now holds a stake in the South African beer brand. He made the announcement as a guest on Mac G’s Podcast and Chill. The move changes his position from brand ambassador to part-owner.
MySol reportedly told associates that the money will go towards a national marketing campaign and a distribution push, aimed at getting Chiller Lager into provinces where it is hardly seen at the moment. He is also said to have structured the deal so that he holds voting shares and not just a promotional arrangement. This means his own financial returns are now tied to how well the brand performs. The exact size of his shareholding has not been made public.
Chiller Lager’s management confirmed that it received the investment but did not say what percentage MySol owns. It said the new ownership brings “transformative momentum” to distribution talks that are under way with major retail chains. Industry analysts who follow the craft and emerging beer segment say the timing fits a wider shift, with more consumers choosing locally rooted brands over multinational ones.
The brand entered the market several years ago and has had to compete with established players that have very large advertising budgets. MySol brings capital and also a large following. His audience spans streaming platforms and township communities, and it includes the same group of buyers that drives weekend sales.
On the podcast, Mac G was visibly shocked when MySol mentioned the figure during the conversation. Mac G covered his mouth, stared at his guest for several seconds and said “bro” into the microphone. The moment was clipped and shared thousands of times online within hours.
Several things are still unclear. It is not known how quickly Chiller Lager can turn the new money into shelf space before competitors respond. MySol has also not said whether other partners plan to join the venture or whether this investment round is now closed.
