Manchester United 23-man training squad vs Como revealed with eight absent

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United have revealed their 23-man training squad ahead of their Champions League clash against Como, with several first-team players missing from preparations at Carrington.

Michael Carrick oversaw United’s final training session on Tuesday morning before the team travelled to Italy for Wednesday’s European fixture.

Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were among those absent from training, raising concerns about their availability for the match.

Rashford is currently managing a hip problem and did not participate in the session. The forward’s condition is being monitored by the club, with a late assessment expected to determine whether he can join the travelling squad.

Martinez was also missing after being substituted at half-time during United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United last weekend because of a knock. Although the issue was not initially considered serious, his absence from training leaves his involvement against Como uncertain.

Heaven missed the session because of illness, which had also ruled him out of the Leeds fixture.

Meanwhile, Mainoo continues to recover from a minor injury that has already kept him out of United’s recent matches against Atletico Madrid and Leeds. Shaw was also absent as he continues to deal with an injury that has sidelined him since the draw against Tottenham earlier this month.

The left-back has already experienced another spell on the sidelines this season, having previously missed three matches before returning against Fulham on September 20.

United’s defensive options could be further reduced by the absence of Leny Yoro, who is suspended following his red card against Atletico Madrid. The defender was not involved in Tuesday’s session but is expected to resume full training.

Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu also remain unavailable. Sesko is dealing with a shin problem, and Carrick has admitted that the club does not yet know how long the striker will be out.

Dorgu, meanwhile, has been sidelined since suffering a suspected hamstring injury during Denmark’s international fixture against Wales in September.

Despite the selection concerns, United’s 23-man training group includes several young players who could be considered for the Como encounter.

The squad features goalkeepers Senne Lammens, Karl Darlow, Tom Heaton and Mee. The defensive options include Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Amass, Dan Armer, Diogo Dalot, Jayden Kamason and Noussair Mazraoui.

In midfield, Mason Mount, Tyler Fletcher, Jack Fletcher, Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Bruno Fernandes were included.

United’s attacking options consist of Shea Lacey, Joshua Zirkzee, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo.

The inclusion of young defenders such as Amass, Armer and Kamason could prove significant if United’s senior players fail to recover in time. Amass, in particular, could be considered for a role at left-back because of Shaw’s absence.

United travel to Como looking to build on their opening Champions League victory over Sabah and recover from their defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Como, managed by former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, have made an encouraging start to their European campaign. They defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 before suffering a narrow 3-2 loss away to Feyenoord.
