Man Utd To Reignite Move For £50m Striker As Fresh Contract Twist Emerges

According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Manchester United are reportedly considering renewing their interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as manager Michael Carrick evaluates potential attacking reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.

The Senegal international has yet to decide whether to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park, potentially opening the door for interested clubs to pursue him when the transfer window reopens.

Manchester United targeted the 28-year-old during the summer, and his versatility could appeal to INEOS as the club looks to strengthen several areas of Carrick’s squad.

According to TEAMtalk, United continue to monitor Sarr because he has not accepted Palace’s contract extension offer, although his representatives are reportedly satisfied with the proposed terms.

Sarr sought to leave Palace during the summer and attracted interest from Galatasaray. However, the Eagles rejected the Turkish club’s approach before bringing the winger back into their first-team plans.

Sunderland and Newcastle United have also reportedly shown interest in the Senegalese forward. Meanwhile, moves to Turkey or the Saudi Pro League could provide alternative options if negotiations over his future remain unresolved.

Palace are under little pressure to sell Sarr because his current contract runs until 2028. The club reportedly demanded £50 million during the summer and rejected Galatasaray’s initial offer, potentially setting a significant asking price for any interested suitors.

United reportedly view Sarr as an attractive target because he can operate in several attacking positions. His performances for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup also demonstrated his ability to play in a central role.

The Red Devils are looking to add more attacking options, and Sarr could offer solutions beyond strengthening their wide positions. His pace and direct style of play would give Carrick another option when trying to break down opposing defences.

The Senegalese winger can also play centrally, potentially providing cover behind Bruno Fernandes. United have often relied heavily on their captain for creativity, at times deploying him on the right flank to meet tactical demands.

Recent injury problems have further highlighted the need for greater squad depth, with several players unavailable for Wednesday’s Champions League meeting against Como. Those missing include Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro.

Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko are also unavailable for the Como fixture, adding to United’s selection challenges. While Sarr would not address the club’s defensive shortages, his versatility could reduce the burden on attacking teammates.

If Sarr turns down Palace’s contract extension, United could reconsider a move for him in January. However, the player’s decision, Palace’s willingness to negotiate and the reported £50 million valuation will determine whether a transfer is possible.
