Left home to charge phone – never came back

The 35-year-old woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said her 35-year-old partner left home on Saturday, 5 September, around 6pm to charge their cellphones as they had no electricity.

“He said he was going to charge our phones and would come back, but he never returned.”

She said two women later arrived and told her that her partner had been shot.

When she went to the scene, she was told the mortuary had already collected his body.

The woman said the family went to the mortuary the following Monday after police told them they were not sure whether he had been shot.

She said the three cellphones her partner had with him were also missing.

The following day, she started calling the cellphones, and the calls went through, but nobody answered.

She said cops later returned two of the cellphones, but the third was still missing.

The woman claimed people in the neighbourhood knew who had taken the phones but were afraid to come forward.

She questioned why no arrests had been made and wanted to know whether the recovered cellphones had been used as evidence in the murder investigation.

“I’m depressed now, and my partner’s family wants to know what happened to him. I don’t have answers,” she said.

The woman added that her partner left behind four kids who now depend on her.

“It’s really hard on us. All I need is to know what happened.”

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that the case had been registered as murder.

“The investigating officer is in contact with both the victim’s both parents,” she said.

“Currently, no one has been arrested, and police investigations continue.”
