Mahama Appoints Brother to Same Position He Criticized Nana Addo For – Dr. Kwateng Drops Allegations

A lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr.Solomon Kwarteng Forkuo, has questionedPresidentJohn Dramani Mahama’s consistencyon government appointments, accusing him ofacting againstprinciples he previously used tocriticise former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

During an appearance on Wontumi TV, Dr. Forkuosaid Mahama had earlier condemned Akufo-Addoforappointing a relative to a sensitive governmentposition. He argued that the current president hasnowattracted similar criticism after appointinghis brother to an important role in government.

According to the lecturer, the developmentraises concerns about whether Mahamais applying thesame rules to himself thathe expected his predecessor to follow.

Dr. Forkuo also claimed that pressure fromsome members of the National DemocraticCongress (NDC)had led to appointments beingmade discreetly, with party loyalists reportedlyseeking positions withinthe government.

Beyond the issue of family appointments, heexpressed concern about the compositionof Mahama’scabinet. He stated that ten ofthe 19 ministers were from the Northern andVolta regions, while womenoccupied only twoministerial positions. In his view, the figures calledinto question the administration’scommitmentto broad regional and gender representation.

The lecturer maintained that leadershipshould be guided by honesty, fairness andconsistency, insistingthat political changesshould not determine whether a particularaction is considered acceptable.

“What was unacceptable in the past doesn’tbecome right simply because the persondoing it haschanged,” he argued.

His remarks have contributed to discussionsabout the need for transparency in publicappointments andthe importance of holdingpolitical leaders to the same standardsthey previously demanded of others.
