Lucas Hernandez Reveals How He Stopped Lamine Yamal in PSG’s 4-2 Win Over Barcelona
According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Hernandez has revealed how he managed to limit Lamine Yamal’s impact during PSG’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
Hernandez delivered an impressive performance, contributing both defensively and offensively. The French defender scored a header to give PSG a 2-1 lead while also working hard to prevent Barcelona’s young winger from creating dangerous opportunities.
Speaking after the match, Hernandez praised Yamal’s talent but explained that maintaining close contact and applying aggressive pressure were essential to reducing the teenager’s influence on the game.
“Lamine Yamal? A brilliant player. I knew that if I stayed close and played aggressively, he’d find it difficult,” Hernandez said, as quoted by Barca Universal.
However, Barcelona managed to find a breakthrough shortly after Hernandez was substituted. Yamal scored the equaliser after beating Warren Zaïre-Emery, giving the Spanish side renewed hope of recovering from their deficit.
PSG eventually regained control in the closing stages, scoring twice more to seal a convincing 4-2 victory and strengthen their position in the Champions League.
Hernandez also revealed that he only discovered he would be starting the match during the pre-match team talk. Despite receiving the news late, he remained focused on delivering a strong performance and was pleased with the outcome.
PSG manager Luis Enrique praised the defender for his contribution, highlighting both his efforts to contain Yamal and his important goal. Young winger Désiré Doué also recognised Hernandez’s performance, naming him as his man of the match.
The display further demonstrated Hernandez’s value to PSG, with his defensive discipline, physical strength and attacking contribution playing important roles in the victory. His approach against Yamal also highlighted the effectiveness of close marking and aggressive pressure when dealing with dangerous attacking players.
