Kenya Police FC Extend Winless Start After Late Defeat To AFC Leopards
Kenya Police FC’s search for their first victory of the FKF Premier League season continued on Tuesday after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium, conceding a stoppage-time winner despite fighting back to level the contest.
The law enforcers appeared on course to secure a point after Elvis Rupia cancelled out Kevin Luke Otiala’s second-half opener for Leopards.
However, substitute Ronald Sichenje struck in the 92nd minute to leave Police empty-handed.
The result extended Police’s winless start to the campaign, with the team still searching for their first victory as the new season gathers momentum.
Police showed glimpses of their attacking threat in the opening half, with Yves Koutiama creating opportunities down the flank.
His cross in the 15th minute went unanswered, while his header from an Elvis Rupia delivery seven minutes later failed to find the target.
The visitors also witnessed a controversial moment shortly before the break when Tyson Otieno’s effort was ruled not to have crossed the goal line.
The decision sparked protests from Leopards players and supporters, with objects thrown during the halftime interval.
Leopards returned from the break with greater urgency and took the lead in the 49th minute through Otiala, who slotted the ball into an unguarded net.
Police responded around the hour mark with a well-worked equaliser.
Hernest Malonga supplied Edward Omondi, who dribbled towards the byline before cutting the ball back for Rupia to tap home.
The equaliser offered Police an opportunity to leave Nyayo Stadium with a share of the points, but they were unable to hold on as Sichenje struck deep into stoppage time.
