Floyd Mayweather has revealed that witnessing his mother’s drug use and knowing that his father dealt drugs influenced his decision to stay away from alcohol and drugs.

According to a video shared by PBD Podcast on Monday, October 19, 2026, the former boxing champion made the revelation while responding to a question about how he resisted temptation despite being surrounded by nightlife and entertainment.

During the conversation, the host recalled accounts of Mayweather visiting nightclubs without drinking alcohol. Mayweather confirmed the stories, explaining that although he went out with his team while they drank and partied, he chose not to consume alcohol or drugs.

Mayweather explained that his childhood experiences shaped his decision to live differently. He noted that seeing his mother use drugs and learning about his father’s involvement in drug dealing after his career failed made him determined to avoid similar habits.

In his words, he said he decided against drinking and taking drugs after witnessing those experiences. He added that he often confronted his mother about smoking and drinking and did not want to become a hypocrite by engaging in the same behaviours he discouraged.

The boxing legend also explained that he considers his body his greatest asset and believes people should take proper care of it. According to him, everyone has only one body, which makes maintaining a healthy lifestyle important.

Mayweather further disclosed that during training camp, he would sometimes run six or seven miles back home from a nightclub, demonstrating his commitment to fitness even when he attended social gatherings.

When the host expressed admiration for his discipline and asked how he maintained his values among celebrities who might engage in unhealthy habits, Mayweather said he focused on his achievements and reflected on whether he had reached his level of success through drinking or smoking.

He maintained that his accomplishments came from living a disciplined life, praying and working hard rather than engaging in those habits.

Mayweather also spoke about his faith, revealing that he prayed to God for help in achieving his ambition of reaching the Olympics and for his mother to overcome her drug problems. He said he made a commitment to continue obeying God in return, crediting his faith and dedication as important influences in his life.
