How Sifuna Reacted After Wetangula and Mudavadi Walked Out When He Was Called to Speak at a Church

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula were captured leaving a church service just as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was invited to address mourners.

The incident happened on Wednesday, October 21, during a requiem mass for the late Burudi Nabwera at Friends Church in Lang’ata, Nairobi.

Video footage showed the two leaders walking down the church aisle alongside their entourage as they headed towards the exit, greeting some congregants along the way.

Moments later, Sifuna was invited to speak. The senator appeared to acknowledge the situation with a humorous remark, telling mourners, “This is Nairobi,” prompting laughter from the congregation.

It remains unclear whether Mudavadi and Wetang’ula left specifically because Sifuna had been invited to address the gathering.

The incident comes amid political differences ahead of the 2027 General Election. Mudavadi and Wetang’ula support President William Ruto’s re-election bid, while Sifuna has positioned himself among his critics through the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Nabwera served as Kenya’s ambassador to the United States and later entered politics, winning the Lugari parliamentary seat in 1988. His son, Nabii Nabwera, currently serves as the area’s MP.
