How cutting pictures of actors and musicians inspired Ameyaw Debrah’s career
Ameyaw Debrah has revealed that his childhood interest in entertainment helped shape his career as a celebrity blogger and journalist.
Speaking to veteran broadcaster Kafui Dey about his life and career, the digital media entrepreneur recalled collecting pictures of his favourite actors and musicians from DStv programme guides and creating a collage that he took to secondary school.
“I grew up, the early stages where I remember when I keep telling the story, I had cut, you know, back then DStv would bring you the programme guide, and then I would cut my favourite artists and actors from that magazine and stitch them on paper to create a collage,” he recounted.
Ameyaw said he even took the collage to his all-boys secondary school, hoping to display it in his dormitory. One of his senior friends eventually helped him find a place to hang it.
The blogger also recalled staying up late to watch major entertainment events, including the Oscars and Grammy Awards.
“I was a TV buff. I would stay up late to catch the Oscars live. I would stay up late to watch the Grammy live,” he said.
According to him, his habit of following entertainers from around the world later influenced how he approached entertainment blogging.
“I had that culture where I was consuming a lot of entertainment and following entertainers from around the world. So anytime I had the opportunity to create content on entertainment, I was going to take it to that level but still localise it,” he explained.
Ameyaw said the experience helped him combine his interest in international entertainment with content tailored to local audiences.
