Government Presents 128 SUVs to MMDCEs to Boost Local Governance

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has presented a fleet of 128 ZondaTech vehicles—including Haval H9 SUVs and pickup trucks—to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country. The strategic handover exercise is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening field supervision, and improving frontline public service delivery at the local assembly level.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, underscored that the vehicle distribution demonstrates the government’s steadfast commitment to decentralization. He noted that providing MMDCEs with modern administrative transport will enable local authorities to conduct regular monitoring of development projects, respond swiftly to community grievances, and maintain closer contact with their constituents.

The distribution exercise, structured to cover assemblies across multiple regions, comes with strict operational guidelines. Minister Ayariga cautioned MMDCEs against utilizing state vehicles for private errands, emphasizing that the transport assets must be dedicated strictly to official administrative duties, monitoring national development programs, and driving localized anti-illegal mining interventions within their respective jurisdictions.

The initiative has been warmly received by local government actors and regional administrators as a timely boost to administrative logistics. With enhanced mobility now available to district leaders, stakeholders expect accelerated execution of local infrastructure projects and improved oversight of public resources in communities nationwide.
