Ghanaians React As Ohenewaa Uses Akosua Serwaa And Florence As Case Study For Not Being A Good Wife

According to a report by The BBC Ghana today being Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Lawyer Mary Ohenewaa has urged women to protect their identity and emotional well-being in marriage, warning them against sacrificing their happiness and peace of mind in an attempt to remain good wives.

She encouraged women to draw lessons from the stories of Akosua Serwaa and Florence Obinim, emphasising the importance of knowing their worth regardless of their marital status.

According to Ohenewaa, marriage should not require women to abandon the things that make them happy or give up their individuality to satisfy their partners.

She stressed that although commitment and understanding are important in every relationship, women should not allow the desire to maintain a marriage to overshadow their personal needs and aspirations.

The lawyer also cautioned against tolerating toxic behaviour simply because of the fear of losing a partner or facing the end of a relationship. She noted that protecting a marriage should not come at the expense of a woman’s well-being, dignity or peace of mind.

Ohenewaa’s advice comes amid continuing public conversations about marriage, relationships and the sacrifices women are sometimes expected to make. By referencing Akosua Serwaa and Florence Obinim, she encouraged women to reflect on the experiences being discussed publicly and consider how such situations relate to their own lives.

She further urged women to recognise that their value does not depend on having a husband or remaining in a relationship. In her view, women should maintain their personal goals, interests and sense of identity even when they are committed to someone.

The lawyer’s message also highlights the importance of setting healthy boundaries and understanding that a relationship should not erase an individual’s sense of self.

Ohenewaa concluded with a strong reminder to women: “Be a whole woman, with or without a man.” Her message encourages women to prioritise their well-being, recognise their worth and remember that being married should not mean losing themselves.
