Ghana Exported Non-Traditional Goods to 47 African Countries Under AfCFTA in 2025
The National Coordinator of the National AfCFTA Coordination Office, Dode Seidu, has highlighted Ghana’s progress in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), pointing to the export of non-traditional goods to 47 African countries in 2025 as evidence of the agreement’s growing impact.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, October 21, Mr Seidu said Ghana had made considerable progress in putting measures in place to benefit from the continental trade agreement.
However, he stressed that further efforts were needed to fully realise its economic potential.
He explained that Ghana was the first country to establish a national coordination office dedicated to supporting AfCFTA implementation, given the need for various government agencies and institutions to incorporate the agreement into their activities.
According to him, several public institutions have since taken steps to align their operations with the initiative, creating opportunities to expand trade, attract investment and strengthen economic cooperation across Africa.
Mr Seidu cited the establishment of an AfCFTA focal desk by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre as one of the measures introduced to promote and facilitate investment among African countries.
He also referred to Ghana’s non-traditional export performance in 2025, noting that the country shipped goods to 47 African nations under the framework of the trade agreement.
Despite these achievements, Mr Seidu said more attention needed to be paid to educating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) about the opportunities available under AfCFTA.
He observed that many businesses, particularly smaller enterprises, remained insufficiently informed about how to access and compete in the wider African market.
He therefore emphasised the need to intensify public education and provide businesses with the necessary information to enable them to take advantage of the agreement.
