Four Eight-Year-Old Pupils Killed as Van Crashes Into Schoolchildren at Aboabo

Four eight-year-old kids were killed and three others injured when a Hyundai van collided with a group of students in Aboabo, Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ashanti Region.

The unfortunate tragedy happened on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when the children were about to cross the street after school.

The students attended Akotosu’s School of Islamic Studies. According to MyJoyOnline, the van drove off the road and hit all seven youngsters who were waiting on the pavement.

Juraid Mohammed, Anisah Ibrahim, Fati Muniru, and Raiyan Faisal are the four students who died. They were all declared dead upon arrival at the Manhyia District Hospital.

The crash injured three additional students, two of whom are reportedly in critical condition.

Laila Muniru, 12, and Bushira Musapha, 5, were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further care.

The third injured student, six-year-old Saisa Bila, was being treated at Manhyia District Hospital and was said to be stable.

The catastrophe has left families and the community in sadness over the deaths of the young students.

Eyewitnesses Explain How the Crash Happened

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was traveling from the Aboabo Post Office area to the Airport Roundabout when the driver reportedly lost control while descending a slope.

The truck suddenly drove onto the pavement, hitting all seven of the youngsters who were waiting to cross the road.

Officers from the Airport District Police Command responded, helped moderate the mob, and cleared the road so that traffic could resume.

The driver was arrested, and the damaged vehicle was seized as investigations proceeded to determine the cause of the incident.

Headmaster Calls for Construction of Footbridge.

Following the disaster, Bawa Abdul-Rahman, headmaster of the School of Islamic Studies, urged the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to build a footbridge at the site.

He believes the new facility will assist protect pedestrians, particularly youngsters who must cross the street after classes.

The event has raised worries about pedestrian safety near schools, as well as the dangers that youngsters face when crossing busy roadways without proper infrastructure.

Police investigations are likely to determine how the driver lost control of the car and whether additional action is necessary.

The corpses of the four murdered youngsters were handed to their families after identification, and burial arrangements were completed in accordance with Islamic customs on Wednesday.

As the inquiry proceeds, the tragedy has highlighted the need for better road crossings and steps to safeguard youngsters from driving hazards.
