The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced planned electricity blackouts in 13 counties scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, to allow technical teams to conduct routine system upkeep.

In Nairobi, consumers around Highrise, Ngumo, Mbagathi Road, Nairobi West, and parts of Kenyatta National Hospital will be without electricity between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. In Kericho, the blackouts will affect Mau Tea Factory, Kaisugu, and Chepsir Market from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Nandi’s Ndulele and Chemnoet regions, alongside Kakamega’s Khwisero Market and Emalindi, will experience disruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Shorter maintenance windows are set for Bungoma, where Lufwindire and Nzoia Market will lose power from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Vihiga, where Eregi, Malinyo, and Kerongo will be off during the same early hours. Kisumu County will see shutdowns in Ndiwa and Nyatuoro from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while Nyeri County will have two maintenance zones covering Muruguru, Kihethu, Itiati, and Kiamucheru over the same full-day timeframe.

In Garissa, the outage will impact Sumeya, Modika, and surrounding millers from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Kitui residents around Kiusyani, Lower Yatta, and Kalulini markets will face power cuts within those same standard hours. Down at the coast, Kilifi’s Mariakani town, Kwale Town and its adjacent sub-counties, as well as Lamu’s Manda Island and LAPSET Port area will all undergo maintenance interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
