Calls Grow for General Puleng Dimpane to Address Alleged Links and Controversy

More and more people are demanding that General Puleng Dimpane go back to her post and meet with the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry as needed. According to the people calling her, she has some significant concerns about her alleged participation with Crime Intelligence and high-ranking police officers that she has to address. All of these assertions are yet unproven and need more investigation.

Initial worries center on affidavits purportedly submitted by Dimpane to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC). They allegedly have to do with human resources and the Crime Intelligence department’s search for a new chief financial officer. Her involvement, the information she relied on, and whether or not these things were within her duties are all questions that the people bringing the problem up want answered. Only evidence can prove the contents and purpose of the affidavits, and Dimpane must be given an opportunity to reply.

Dylan Perumal’s apparent involvement with her is the second matter of concern. Some have wondered whether the two were romantically or professionally involved, and if they ever broached the subject of potentially apprehending high-ranking police officers and Crime Intelligence personnel. Among those named in the accusations are Brigadier Mokwele, General Masemola, and General Khumalo, as well as other members of the Crime Intelligence personnel. Communication, testimony, or documentation supporting the assertion that such talks occurred are required.

Finally, there’s the accusation that Dimpane was involved with or complicit in the Project Diversion agenda, which is the third point of contention. The accusers want to know whether she had any involvement, if so, what her function was, and if her behaviour was appropriate for a senior police officer.

A commission appearance, according to those demanding answers, would allow the panel to examine her directly in the event that they determine her testimony is necessary. In the event that she fails to show up, they have also requested that the Political Killings Task Force (PKTT) investigate. Any choice to call her in or send the accusations for inquiry must adhere to the correct legal processes and the requirements of the relevant agencies. Just because someone doesn’t show up doesn’t mean they’re guilty. We must first investigate the grounds and determine if there is a legal need to attend.

The larger issue of public confidence and accountability in South Africa’s police institutions is the driving force behind the requests. Proponents of the demands contend that top officials, particularly those involved in sensitive Crime Intelligence operations, should not have accusations against them left unanswered. The charges against Dimpane are still unanswered questions at this time. Public confidence will be restored if there is transparent proof and a level playing field where all parties have an opportunity to reply.
