Bukom Banku Finally Arrested in Bawku After a Seven-Month Manhunt
A man identified as Bukom Banku has been arrested in Bawku after reportedly evading law enforcement for several months over allegations that he absconded with a gold consignment valued at more than GHยข800,000.
According to reports, Banku was entrusted with transporting the gold to a buyer in Manso-Adubia. However, he allegedly failed to deliver the consignment and disappeared with the valuable items. The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who launched an investigation and began searching for him.
Authorities reportedly spent several months pursuing leads before receiving information that helped them determine his whereabouts. The search eventually led investigators to Bawku, where he was arrested. The town is said to be his father’s hometown.
Preliminary investigations suggest that some of the money allegedly obtained from the missing gold may have been used to purchase motorbikes and tricycles for commercial transportation. Investigators also suspect that part of the proceeds went towards financing the construction of a modest residential building.
Law enforcement authorities have reportedly recovered a significant portion of the assets believed to have been acquired with the missing funds. Nevertheless, efforts are continuing to trace and recover the remaining assets as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
Banku’s arrest marks a significant development in the case, bringing an end to the prolonged search for him. However, the investigation remains ongoing as the police continue gathering evidence, tracing the outstanding assets and examining the financial transactions allegedly linked to the missing gold.
