Barry Sloane Teases “Different Energy” From Captain Price in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition (2026), Call of DutyThanks to an Xbox Wire interview with the narrative director, Barry Sloane teases "different energy" from Captain Price in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 game.

In the upcoming installment, fans will see the popular and fan-favorite character Captain Price, played by Sloane, but apparently, he's going to be much different.

At the end of 2023's Modern Warfare 3 campaign, Price kills General Shepherd, something that he "can't really come back from," according to the Modern Warfare 4 narrative director, Jeff Negus.

Modern Warfare 4 Promises Grounded Activision

While speaking with Xbox Wire, Negus talked about the different version that we'll see from Price after his choice to murder Shepherd in the last game.

"We get to forge a new path for him, and see what happens when he's now in different conflicts – how does this version of Price resolve that conflict?"

According to GameSpot, the new game will follow multiple storylines, one being a group of South Korean soldiers and the other following a "vengeful Captain Price" who is waging a "personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him."

The two stories will connect. "As Price's off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone's control," says the story description.

Even more information was shared thanks to an exclusive interview with BANG Showbiz at a press event for the game in London. According to the outlet, who spoke with Sloane: "It's a different, a different energy entirely. I mean, he's disavowed, effectively, you know, once you've shot a member of the US military inside the Pentagon. There's not much you're gonna be able to do on the work front."

"So, you know, he's a man with a particular set of skills, so he's not going to go and get a job at Home Depot. You know, he's gonna try and make himself useful in the best way he can. And so, that's what he's done. We pick his story up. He's been in New York for a while, keeping underground. He gets a phone call from a good friend with some intel, and we pick up his story from that."

He said: "I've loved every part of getting to play Captain Price, and it's a role any actor worth the salt would want to play, and an actor that plays them better, gives their heart and soul, and better respects the fans, and the legacy of the game, and not just do it because they get a paycheque, would be my thinking."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is released on all platforms on October 23.
