Ato Ahwoi And Paul Adom-Otchere Clash Live On Metro TV Over NDC Commentary
A political discussion on Metro TVâs Good Morning Ghana turned heated on , after veteran NDC politician Ato Ahwoi took issue with journalist Paul Adom-Otchere over his recent analysis of the National Democratic Congress.
Ahwoi joined the programme by phone and strongly criticised Adom-Otchere, accusing him of making comments that could create confusion and division within the NDC. He questioned why the journalist was repeatedly being given a platform to discuss matters concerning the party.
âI like the way these days you bring Paul Adom-Otchere to come and create confusion in the NDC. Paul has never said anything good about the NDC,â Ahwoi stated.
He further alleged that Adom-Otchere had been closely associated with former President Nana Akufo-Addo and suggested that the journalist was using his television presence to cause difficulties for the current governing party.
Ahwoi also brought up an alleged encounter from the period when the NDC was in government. He claimed Adom-Otchere once came to his office and asked him to help secure a position for him. Despite this, Ahwoi said he should continue with whatever he was doing because it would not ultimately help him.
The veteran politician also rejected what he considered premature discussions about the NDCâs next presidential candidate and running mate. He said the party had already made its position clear that its flagbearer would be selected about a year before the next general election.
He argued that President Mahama had served only nine months of his current four-year mandate and therefore saw no reason for the party to begin choosing a flagbearer or running mate at this stage.
As tensions rose during the programme, host Moro Awudu stepped in to explain Metro TVâs position. He said the production team determines who appears on the show and insisted that there was no hidden agenda behind Adom-Otchereâs participation. Awudu added that Adom-Otchere was a staff member of the station and had the right to appear on its platforms.
Adom-Otchere later responded directly to Ahwoiâs accusations. While admitting that he supports aspects of Nana Akufo-Addoâs political philosophy, he denied having any intention of working against the NDC.
âI am an apologist of Akufo-Addoâs political philosophy, but I do not wish the NDC evil. I have friends in the NDC,â he explained.
He also addressed the allegation that he had previously sought a job through Ahwoi while the NDC was in power. Adom-Otchere said he did not remember asking for such a position, although he confirmed that he used to visit Ahwoi regularly at the time.
The journalist further clarified that his recent analysis concerning the NDCâs possible flagbearer contest was based on polling information from political analyst Mussa Dankwah. He stressed that the discussion was therefore not simply his own personal assessment.
The disagreement was eventually brought to an end, with Moro Awudu assuring the audience that Metro TV would continue to promote balanced and fair discussions on its programmes.
