The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will be rejected by Nigerians in his next presidential contest.

Basiru made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the APC’s campaign message ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Basiru was asked how the ruling party intended to convince voters to support President Bola Tinubu, given that opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Adebayo, had also promised to provide good governance.

Responding, the APC spokesman criticised some opposition politicians for making promises he considered unrealistic. He specifically dismissed a pledge attributed to one of them to reduce the price of petrol to ₦200 per litre, describing it as an unachievable promise.

Basiru also compared Atiku to the late Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, arguing that the former vice president’s political journey had reached a point where his next presidential campaign would demonstrate that Nigerians were no longer willing to support his ambition.

He maintained that Atiku’s anticipated bid would be his final attempt at the presidency and predicted that voters would reject him at the polls.

Further talking, he said, “Atiku is not a professional. Atiku trained as an hygiene expert at the School of Hygiene in Kano. He is a ‘wole wole man.’ And he went to be a tax collector in Custom, where is the expertise? Check is profile.

“The fact that you became a vice president doesn’t make you an expert. Atiku is the Odinga of our country; that’s what the vice president said and I like that statement very well.”
