Accept my apology, I am ‘bitterly’ sorry for speaking against you on my show – Nana Kwame Jantuah

Nhyira FM broadcaster Nana Kwame Jantuah has apologised to Emefa Hardcastle over comments he made following a heated confrontation involving the parliamentarian and Annoh Dompreh. The broadcaster acknowledged that some of his remarks were inappropriate and fell short of the professional standards expected of someone working in the media industry.

Jantuah addressed the controversy during a broadcast, expressing regret over the nature of his comments and the possible impact they may have had on Hardcastle. He admitted that his reaction to the incident could have been more measured, particularly given the politically sensitive nature of the disagreement and the attention it had attracted.

The broadcaster recognised that public comments by media practitioners can influence how individuals are perceived, especially when political disputes generate widespread public discussion. He therefore acknowledged that his remarks might have negatively affected Hardcastle’s reputation or contributed to the tension surrounding the incident.

In his apology, Jantuah appealed to Hardcastle and her office to accept his expression of regret. He conceded that he could have handled the matter differently by adopting a more balanced approach and ensuring that his comments reflected the impartiality and professionalism expected of a journalist.

He also spoke favourably about Hardcastle’s responsibilities as a parliamentarian, recognising her role in representing the interests of her constituents. Jantuah expressed regret that his earlier statements might have created an unfair impression of her character, intentions or conduct, stressing the importance of treating public officials fairly when discussing controversial political developments.

The apology has also brought renewed attention to the responsibility of broadcasters and other media professionals when commenting on disagreements involving politicians. Media personalities often play an influential role in shaping public opinion, making it essential for them to exercise caution, verify information and avoid statements that could unnecessarily inflame political tensions.

Jantuah further called on political leaders and public figures to demonstrate restraint in their words and actions, particularly during disagreements that attract public attention. He stressed that political differences should not become a source of hostility or deepen divisions among citizens.

According to the broadcaster, politicians and journalists alike have important roles to play in promoting peaceful coexistence, encouraging constructive dialogue and supporting Ghana’s democratic development. He maintained that disagreements can be addressed more effectively when the parties involved prioritise mutual respect and responsible communication.

Jantuah concluded by reaffirming his commitment to responsible journalism and expressing his desire to contribute positively to national conversations. His apology underscored the importance of accountability in public communication and the need for media practitioners to uphold professional standards, particularly when reporting on sensitive political matters.
