Bayern Munich are almost at full strength for their Champions League clash against Arsenal.
The Gunners are in Germany on Wednesday night, following a 1-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend, for their third match of this season’s league phase.
Mikel Arteta’s side have made a perfect start in Europe, beating Napoli and Lille, though a big test awaits them at the Allianz Arena.
In an early boost for Arsenal, they will not come up against one of the most in-form players across Europe this season in Michael Olise after he was sent-off in Bayern’s 3-3 draw against Viking.
The France international was booked for a cynical pull of the shirt and then immediately earned himself a second yellow card for throwing the ball in the face of a Viking player.
“It was our own fault,” Vincent Kompany said of the dismissal. “This red card was super dumb… you can see in [Olise’s] eyes that he’s sorry about it and that he regrets letting the team down.”
As a result of Olise’s red card, he must serve a one-game ban and will therefore not be available for Bayern against Arsenal.
Suspended: Michael OliseAFP/GettyHowever, captain Manuel Neuer is expected to be fit after taking part in Tuesday afternoon’s training session.
Neuer did not play in the 6-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig at the weekend because of an ongoing foot problem but he is expected to be back in goal for the visit of Arsenal.
Jamal Musiala, though, has not featured since withdrawing from international duty with after sustaining a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh while warming up for Germany’s Nations League clash against the Netherlands last month.
The attacking midfielder was not spotted in training on Tuesday and is therefore set to be unavailable for selection against the Gunners.
Bayern vice-captain Joshua Kimmich – a scorer in the 2023-24 quarter-final win over Arsenal – was not present in the session either, but reports in Germany claim this was due to private reasons and is expected to start at the Allianz Arena.
