Today’s Headlines:We’ll Never Support Tinubu’s Reelection-PDP, Trump Waives Sanctions On Russian Oil
The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has vowed never to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The faction made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
The party said reports attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, about collapsing his political structure to support Tinubu’s re-election were not new.It said the minister’s message was not directed at genuine PDP members, stressing that it was intended for people who, like him, pretended to belong to the opposition while working for the ruling party.
US President Donald Trump’s waiver of Russian sanctions eases energy concerns for India, one of the top importers of Russian oil, and may improve the chances of New Delhi and Washington agreeing on a trade deal, besides helping overall ties.
An executive order issued by Trump on Friday waived key Russia-related US sanctions and tariffs — including duties on the country’s goods and penalties for buying its oil and gas — that had been scheduled to start this week under the legislation known as the Graham Act.
Trump said the waiver was in the national interest of the United States.
The legislation would have exposed Indian goods to stiff tariffs of up to 100% as India is one of the five largest importers of Russian oil and posed a challenge for the Asian nation’s energy policies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration warned last month the new tariff measures on Russia could hurt bilateral ties, adding to diplomatic strain and trade uncertainty.

Ikenga said the swift response of the joint security operatives disrupted the suspected criminals’ activities and successfully foiled the attempted abduction.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has called for urgent international support to contain the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak following confirmation of a case in Nigeria, warning that the epidemic has become a major regional public health threat.
The Director-General of Africa CDC, Dr Jean Kaseya, made the appeal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after speaking with Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, who informed him of the confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory.
Kaseya commended Pate for promptly communicating the development, stressing that transparency and early reporting were essential to saving lives and strengthening the response to the outbreak.
