Today’s Headline: Tinubu Has Nothing To Say To Nigerians-Ahmed, Trump Waives Sanctions On Russia Oil

Tinubu has nothing to say to Nigerians — Baba-Ahmed

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has described President Bola Tinubu as a failure, alleging that the president has nothing to say to Nigerians as the 2027 general election approaches.

Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, while criticising Tinubu’s administration over worsening insecurity, economic hardship and the impact of its policies on Nigerians.

“Tinubu inherited Nigeria, but what has he done with it? He inherited a poor country; he inherited weak institutions; he inherited poverty and insecurity. We don’t blame him, but he’s been in power for three and a half years. He is a failure,” he said.

Trump Announced A Waiver Of Sanctions On Russia Oil

US President Donald Trump’s waiver of Russian sanctions eases energy concerns for India, one of the top importers of Russian oil, and may improve the chances of New Delhi ‌and Washington agreeing on a trade deal, besides helping overall ties.

An executive order issued by Trump on Friday waived key Russia-related US sanctions and tariffs — including duties on the country’s goods and penalties for buying its oil and gas — that had been scheduled to start this week under the legislation known as the Graham Act.

Trump said the waiver was in the national interest of the United States.

The legislation would have exposed Indian goods to stiff tariffs of up to 100% as India is one of the five largest importers of Russian oil and posed a challenge for the Asian nation’s energy policies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration warned last month the new tariff measures on Russia could hurt bilateral ties, adding to diplomatic strain and trade uncertainty.

The Ogun State Government has suspended the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, over alleged partisan political activities.

The suspension, approved by the State Executive Council, was made pursuant to Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law, 2021, pending an investigation.

NAN reports that the decision was conveyed in a letter dated 20 October, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta.

According to the letter, the council acted following several complaints about the traditional ruler’s conduct, particularly his alleged involvement in overtly partisan political activities.

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing him as an elder statesman whose life was defined by integrity, discipline and commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress.

Tinubu, in a condolence statement he personally issued on Tuesday, extended his sympathies to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure, the Ondo State Government, South-West Nigeria and members of Afenifere.

The President described the late Fasoranti as “an icon, a beacon of principle, and one of the last great titans of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s progressive family.”

He said the centenarian made significant contributions to Nigeria as an educationist, public servant, politician and advocate of democracy.
