Social Media and Mental Health
Social media has become an important part of university students’ daily lives. It helps them communicate, share information and stay connected with others. However, excessive use of social media can negatively affect mental health.
Constant comparison with others, fear of missing out, cyberbullying and pressure to maintain an online image may increase stress, anxiety and low self-esteem. Spending too much time online can also disturb sleep and reduce academic focus.
Therefore, university students should use social media responsibly and maintain a healthy balance between online and offline activities. Universities can also provide awareness programmes and counselling services to promote students’ mental well-being.
