Saudi Arabia Executes Bangladeshi Couple Over Alleged indecent Act in Mecca mosque

Two Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siri Akhtar, have been executed in Saudi Arabia after being convicted of an alleged immoral act inside a mosque in Mecca.

According to reports circulating on social media, the pair described as newlyweds who had travelled to Mecca for their honeymoon were accused of kissing on the forehead inside the mosque. 

The gesture was reportedly an expression of gratitude to Allah for their marriage.

The reports further claimed that the couple’s bodies had been returned to Bangladesh in two coffins for burial.

Saudi authorities announced the executions on 14 October 2026, stating that the pair had committed an indecent act that violated the sanctity of the mosque. 

The death sentences were handed down under ta’zir, a discretionary form of punishment under Islamic law.
