Sachet Alcohol Ban: When Govt Come, I Beg And Give Them Something, They’ll Release My Goods -Trader
Iquo, a trader at Watt Market in Calabar, Cross River State, has disclosed how she allegedly gives money to enforcement agents to secure the release of sachet alcohol seized from her stall, despite the Federal Government’s ban on the products.
In a report published by VANGUARD on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Iquo said enforcement agents had raided her stall several times but continued to release her goods after she pleaded with them and offered them money.
The trader, who laughed off the idea of a ban, claimed she was unaware that the government had prohibited sachet alcohol, highlighting concerns over the continued sale of the products and the effectiveness of enforcement efforts in the state.
Her account comes amid reports that banned sachet alcohol remains openly available in markets and motor parks across Cross River State, raising questions about compliance with the ban and allegations of corruption among those responsible for enforcing it.
In Iquo’s words: “I never hear say government ban this thing. When they come, I beg them and give them something small, they go release my goods.”
