Rest In Peace: Christina Nyalungu, 37, Allegedly Killed by Partner While on Duty at University

A 37-year-old female security officer, Christina Nyalungu, has died after she was allegedly attacked by her 44-year-old partner while on duty at the University of Limpopo on Saturday night, 12 September 2026.

Nyalungu was reportedly attacked with a claw hammer, with the suspect allegedly striking her repeatedly on the head. The incident left students who witnessed the attack shocked, as they reportedly chased the man when he attempted to flee the scene.

The students eventually caught the suspect and handed him over to the police. Nyalungu was rushed to Mankweng Hospital for medical treatment but sadly succumbed to her injuries.

The 44-year-old suspect appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on 14 September. During the court appearance, he abandoned his bail application and remains in custody.

The matter was postponed to 13 November 2026 for further investigation. The motive behind the alleged killing has not yet been established.

Nyalungu’s family confirmed that she and the accused were in a romantic relationship. Her loved ones are reportedly still searching for answers about what may have led to the tragic incident.

Her death has left her family grieving, with the late security officer leaving behind two children, including a 15-year-old and a toddler.

The circumstances surrounding the killing have added to the pain of a family now forced to cope with the loss of a mother and loved one. As the case continues through the legal process, the motive remains unknown, and the accused has yet to stand trial.
