Prepare for 24 Hours of Heavy Rain as Kenya Meteorological Department Issues Fresh Warning
Residents in several parts of Kenya have been urged to prepare for changing weather conditions after the Kenya Meteorological Department issued a 24-hour forecast warning of rainfall across 21 counties.
The forecast, issued on Tuesday, October 20, covers the period from 9pm on Tuesday to 9pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Some areas are expected to experience morning showers and afternoon thunderstorms as the October–December short rains season continues.
According to the latest report, rainfall is expected in parts of Western Kenya, the Rift Valley and central regions. However, the intensity and distribution of the rain may vary from one location to another.
Residents in areas likely to experience heavy downpours are advised to remain alert, particularly those living in flood-prone locations or near rivers. Motorists should also exercise caution because wet roads and reduced visibility can increase the risk of accidents.
The department has also warned of strong winds in parts of northern Kenya, adding another weather concern for residents in the affected areas.
Kenyans are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and take appropriate precautions as conditions change throughout the forecast period.
The advisory comes as the country continues to experience seasonal rainfall, with several counties expected to receive showers and isolated thunderstorms during the week.
