Not Kindiki, Mt Kenya MPs Now Spotted Backing This Politician Publicly To Be Ruto’s Running Mate

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s bid to become Deputy President in the 2027 General Election has received backing from a section of MPs, who are urging the Mt Kenya region to maintain its political relationship with President William Ruto.

The legislators, including Bahati MP Irene Njoki, Kiambu MP Anne Wamuratha and Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, endorsed Waiguru during a women empowerment forum in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, on October 20, 2026.

The leaders argued that Waiguru’s experience in national government and her two terms as Kirinyaga governor had prepared her for a senior position in the national executive.

Njoki urged women to rally behind the governor, saying her appointment as Deputy President would give them a stronger voice in high-level government decisions.

Gitari also praised Waiguru’s leadership record, citing her work in Kirinyaga County and previous responsibilities in the national government.

Waiguru used the meeting to explain why she believes Mt Kenya should continue supporting Ruto’s re-election campaign, warning that distancing the region from the government could weaken its influence in national decision-making.

She argued that the 2027 election should focus on development, political representation and the government’s performance rather than emotional political decisions.

The governor also expressed confidence in Ruto’s chances of securing a second term, claiming that divisions among opposition leaders could make it difficult for them to unite behind a single presidential candidate.

Waiguru further urged residents to examine the potential benefits of maintaining their political partnership with the government, pointing to infrastructure projects such as the Rironi-Mau Summit highway.

Using a house-repair analogy, she said dissatisfaction with a government should not automatically lead a community to abandon its political relationship with the administration.

Beyond campaigning for Ruto, Waiguru confirmed her interest in moving to national leadership after completing her tenure as governor.

She cited her previous work at the National Treasury, her service as Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary, and her involvement in the Council of Governors as experience that could support her ambitions.

The governor also called on women to support one another in seeking senior leadership positions, highlighting healthcare, water provision and youth empowerment as issues requiring greater attention in national policymaking.

Njoki defended her support for the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying residents should assess its performance and development record when making political decisions.

Waiguru’s endorsement comes as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with the Deputy President position emerging as a potential focus of negotiations within Ruto’s political camp.
