Meet The Ghanaian Man Who Got Married At Age 23 To A 21-Year-Old Lady With Only GHC1,200

Ghanaian social activist and blogger Noah TheBlogger has opened up about his humble beginnings in marriage, revealing that he and his wife held their wedding in 2019 when he was 23 and she was 21, despite having limited financial resources.

He explained that he could not afford the elaborate ceremony often associated with weddings. Rather than postpone their union because of financial difficulties or pressure to meet social expectations, the couple opted for a modest celebration with assistance from relatives, friends and their church community. He estimated that the entire event cost approximately GH¢1,200.

Noah said his personal contribution to the preparations was minimal, explaining that the only item he could afford to purchase for his wife was a pair of high-heeled shoes. Much of the remaining support came from people who wanted to help the couple begin their married life.

His uncle provided a canopy for the occasion, while Faith Congregation Presbyterian Church of Ghana supplied chairs and a sound system. Their contributions helped ensure that the ceremony went ahead despite the couple’s financial constraints.

He also recalled the traditional marriage rites, during which he initially gave GH¢100 to his father-in-law and GH¢200 to his mother-in-law. With additional assistance from friends and well-wishers, the amounts were subsequently increased to GH¢500 for each parent.

Reflecting on the experience, Noah acknowledged that their wedding was far simpler than many celebrations held today. He suggested that some people might find it difficult to accept such an arrangement because of financial concerns and expectations surrounding marriage.

However, he praised his wife for standing by him despite their circumstances. He said she entered the marriage happily, demonstrating faith in their relationship and their future together. For Noah, her decision showed that commitment and mutual support can matter more than an expensive wedding or material possessions.
