Man Utd Get Antonio Conte Verdict as Carrick Faces Sack Speculation

Conte has emerged as a potential successor, but ESPN senior football writer Mark Ogden believes the Italian may not suit United’s needs. Ogden points to Conte’s demanding style and a history of tense departures from previous clubs.

Conte could bring the forceful leadership United may need, Ogden said, but his approach might prove counterproductive with a squad that has struggled to show resilience.

He also noted that Conte has not spent more than two years in any of his four club jobs since leaving the Italy national team in 2014 raising doubts about whether he would offer the long-term stability United need.

The speculation intensified after Conte told The Athletic he hoped to take charge of a “sleeping giant” in his next role.

Some observers interpreted the remark as a reference to United, who have not won the Premier League since 2013 or the Champions League since 2008.

Conte, currently without a club after leaving Napoli, has won league titles with Chelsea, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli.

Carrick will have an immediate chance to ease the pressure when United travel to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. They host Bournemouth on Sunday, with both teams having won only once in the league this season.
