Leeds United Fan Caught on Camera Hurling Abuse at 84-Year-Old Sir Alex Ferguson During Manchester United Clash By Adeayo Oluwasewa Badewo Prefer on Google Published October 20, 2026 • 8:10 PM GMT Sir Alex Ferguson Faces Vile Abuse from Leeds United Fan as 1-1 Manchester United Clash Takes Ugly Turn Off the Pitch Sir Alex Ferguson was subjected to verbal abuse from a Leeds United supporter while watching Manchester United face their rivals at Elland Road on Sunday.

Footage circulating on social media shows the 84-year-old former Manchester United manager, who was carrying a walking stick, apparently preparing to leave the stands when a fan began shouting at him.

The supporter repeatedly called out “Fergie” from above the staircase, prompting Ferguson to look up.

The fan then directed an insult at the legendary manager, who appeared to ignore the remarks before continuing down the stairs.

The video was shared with the caption “hahahaha”.

It remains unclear whether the supporter will face any consequences over the incident.

Daily Mail Sport has contacted Leeds United for comment.

Ferguson experienced the intensity of the rivalry between the two clubs throughout his 26-year spell in charge of Manchester United.

In his autobiography, Managing My Life, the former manager described the hostility he encountered at Elland Road.

“The (Elland Road) crowd invariably give us the impression that a lynching would be too good for us,” he wrote.

He also compared the fixture with Manchester United’s rivalry against Liverpool, insisting that matches against Leeds could reach even greater levels of hostility.

“I have always said Liverpool-Manchester United games are fierce in many aspects. But it never reaches the levels of Leeds United. Never,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson recalled the atmosphere surrounding a previous defeat in Yorkshire, describing the reaction from the home supporters as particularly intense.

“You can feel the hatred, the animosity. I said to the players afterwards, ‘Now you know what it’s like to lose here’,” he wrote.

He also criticised the behaviour of some Leeds supporters and questioned whether the club deserved to remain in the Premier League because of the hostility he had experienced.

Ferguson recalled an occasion when a television camera captured a woman shouting abuse at him, adding that the level of animosity was difficult to understand given the geographical distance between Leeds and Manchester.

He also described the atmosphere as one in which he expected a pitch invasion at any moment.

Sunday’s encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelling out Bryan Mbeumo’s opening goal.

The post-match press conferences focused on the football rather than any off-field incidents.

The abuse directed at Ferguson had not been brought to the attention of either manager at the time.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance despite being disappointed that they had taken only one point from the match.

He said the reaction reflected how much the club had progressed over the previous three years, adding that his side had been the dominant team and should not have gone into half-time trailing.

Farke said Leeds had struggled with their decision-making in the first half but showed greater clarity after the break.

He also highlighted the team’s physical approach and the momentum they built in the second half, explaining that the circumstances may not have suited some of his more technical players.

“We are definitely on the right path,” Farke said.

Describing the fixture as a special game, he added that his decision to push for a victory reflected his belief that Leeds were making progress in the right direction.
