Kafui Danku questions teachers sending female students on personal errands to their homes
Actress and filmmaker Kafui Danku has raised concerns about teachers sending female students on personal errands, particularly to their homes, warning that such practices could expose children to sexual abuse and other forms of exploitation.
In a strongly worded Facebook post, Kafui questioned whether running personal errands for teachers formed part of a student’s responsibilities, especially when the task required them to visit an adult’s private residence.
“Is sending students on personal errands part of a teacher’s job description? And why should young girls, in particular, be sent to teachers’ homes?” she asked.
Her comments followed an earlier post on the issue, which she said attracted pushback from some teachers who challenged her concerns.
Kafui acknowledged that not every teacher who sends a student on an errand necessarily has bad intentions, but argued that the possibility of abuse made it important for adults to maintain clear boundaries with children under their care.
According to her, a teacher’s responsibility is to educate, guide and protect students rather than place them in situations that could expose them to unnecessary risks.
She cautioned against waiting for an incident to occur before taking child protection seriously, stressing that safeguarding students should not be treated as optional.
The actress also urged parents to educate their children about personal boundaries and make them understand that they are not obligated to undertake personal errands for teachers or other adults, particularly those involving visits to private homes.
“We cannot wait for something terrible to happen before we begin asking the right questions,” she stressed.
Her comments follow an expose on the alleged sexual assault which has rocked the Obuasi Senior High Technical School, with about 19 students accusing the headmaster of assault.
