Iran’s Doomsday Plan Revealed? Hormuz Cables Face Destruction

According to a report by Times of India (TOI) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Iran has threatened to target critical infrastructure underpinning the global economy as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.

Brigadier General Hussein Mohebi, a spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned that undersea internet cables passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz could become another point of conflict.

In a warning directed at Iran’s adversaries, Mohebi claimed that seven major submarine internet cables pass through the strait and are essential to global internet connectivity and commercial data transmission, according to Iranian news agency reports.

He also cautioned the United States against launching further attacks, declaring that if the region became unsafe for Iran, other countries in the region should not expect to remain secure.

His comments followed a series of warnings from senior Iranian officials and hardline figures about the possibility of targeting digital infrastructure across the Persian Gulf.

Submarine cables running beneath the strategic waterway transport enormous amounts of internet and financial data between Europe, Asia and the Persian Gulf region.

These cables serve as a vital foundation of global communications, carrying the overwhelming majority of international internet and data traffic.

Any attack on this infrastructure could have far-reaching consequences beyond disruptions to internet speed. Banking operations, military communications, artificial intelligence cloud services, remote working, online gaming and streaming platforms could all face significant challenges.

According to CNN, Iran is also seeking to impose charges on some of the world’s largest technology companies for using submarine internet cables laid beneath the Strait of Hormuz.
