“I broke the covenant, but I’m yet to marry again to test it” – Bonegas on his own failed marriage
Bishop Bonegas, founder of Great Fire Pentecostal International Church, has shared his spiritual interpretation of the marital breakdown between Bishop Daniel Obinim and his former wife, Florence Nana Akua Sarfowaa, suggesting that a family covenant could be responsible for the challenges experienced in their relationship.
According to a report by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Bonegas made the remarks during an interview with Nana Romeo, which was shared on Instagram on October 19.
He suggested that the difficulties surrounding the marriage might be connected to a covenant allegedly established by the great-grandparents of the two families. According to him, certain spiritual covenants are believed to affect marriages only after couples have welcomed children.
“If you look deep into the families of both parties, there is a possibility that a covenant was made in the family. Some of the spirits of covenants affecting marriages only work when the couple has given birth,” he said.
Bonegas also discussed what he considers a common challenge among pastors, arguing that some religious leaders devote so much time and attention to their congregations that they neglect their marriages and families.
He explained that some pastors prioritise church responsibilities at the expense of spending quality time with their wives. According to him, this imbalance can create difficulties in relationships, with some couples recognising the seriousness of their problems only after their marriages have deteriorated.
The preacher further shared his personal experience, revealing that his own marriage ended despite his efforts to provide for his wife and her family. He said the separation left him caring for very young children, including one who was barely a year old at the time.
Bonegas linked his experience to an earlier marital breakdown involving his uncle, claiming that a spiritual consultation helped him understand what he believed was behind the repeated pattern of failed marriages in his family.
He recounted that, during the consultation, the spirit of one of his great-grandmothers allegedly appeared and attributed the family’s marital difficulties to a covenant that caused relationships to collapse while the children were still young.
“I was told to break the covenant, and I have done that, but I am yet to get married again and see if it worked or not,” he added.
His comments have added another perspective to public discussions surrounding Obinim’s separation from Sarfowaa. However, the explanation reflects Bonegas’s personal spiritual beliefs and has not been independently established as the cause of the marriage breakdown.
Neither Obinim nor Sarfowaa was quoted in the interview responding to the claims.
