Here Is The List Of Companies Owned By Cyril Ramaphosa
Cyril Ramaphosa built much of his wealth in business before he became president. He was born on 17 November 1952 in Soweto. He studied law, helped found the National Union of Mineworkers and later served as ANC secretary-general. He became deputy president in 2014 and president in February 2018 after Jacob Zuma resigned. He was not vice president from 1994 to 1997, and he did not lead the United Democratic Movement.
His main business vehicle was Shanduka Group, which he founded. Through Shanduka and related holdings he was linked to several well-known companies. After he returned to full-time politics, he said his assets were placed in a blind trust, so “owns” does not always mean he still runs them day to day.
Companies and interests often linked to him:
This was his investment company, with interests in resources, energy, real estate, banking and food.
Shanduka held a stake in the local McDonald’s business.
He served as chairman of MTN, not as chief executive.
He was a non-executive director and had a shareholding linked to the platinum miner. Lonmin was later taken over by Sibanye-Stillwater.
Shanduka was involved in Coca-Cola bottling investments in South Africa.
Reports have also linked him to holdings connected to firms such as Gold Fields and other resource companies.
Wealth estimates have varied. Forbes has put his fortune in the hundreds of millions of dollars, not a fixed R3 billion company empire that employs 10 percent of South Africa. Those larger claims are not reliable.
He is often praised for business skill and criticised over the gap between his wealth and the country’s unemployment. Both views are part of the public debate.
