‘He Gave Me GH¢100 to Keep Quiet’ — Student Makes Fresh Allegations Against Obuasi SHTS Headmaster

A second-year student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) has alleged that the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, gave her GH¢100 and warned her to remain silent after he allegedly raped her at his official residence.

The student is among 16 students who have accused the headmaster of sexual abuse at his bungalow. She recounted her experience in JoyNews’ investigative documentary, Inside The Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.

Identified as Victim A in the documentary, she said the alleged assault occurred on July 25, 2026, after the headmaster asked her to visit his bungalow under the pretext of sending her on an errand.

She told investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni that the headmaster allegedly subjected her to sexual assault before forcibly having sex with her twice.

“He held my hand and used it to rub his manhood and said he wanted to have sex with me, but I couldn’t do it. We struggled. He took off my shorts and forcibly had sex with me. After that, he dragged me into his bedroom and had sex with me again.”

After this, he gave her a GH¢100 note and warned her not to tell anyone.

“When I returned to the dormitory, I was distraught. I placed the hundred cedis he gave me in a Bible and was lying down crying over it,” she said.

When her friends noticed her condition and asked what was wrong, she eventually disclosed the alleged assault.

Her house prefect encouraged her to report the incident, but she was initially reluctant because of what she described as an earlier experience in which a teacher allegedly caned her, leaving her hospitalised for two weeks.

She said the school authorities had failed to take action after she reported that incident, leaving her doubtful that a complaint against the headmaster would receive attention.

The house prefect eventually informed a house mistress, who referred the matter to the senior house mistress.

However, Victim A alleged that the senior house mistress declined to handle the complaint, while another house mistress subsequently advised her not to tell anyone about the incident.

According to the documentary, no further action had been taken by the three house mistresses by the third day after the alleged assault.

The student said a friend later took her to a male teacher, who allegedly told her that he had confronted the headmaster and that the headmaster had admitted the offence but asked to be forgiven.

She said she rejected the suggestion of forgiveness and demanded that the headmaster leave the school, warning that she would otherwise leave.

Her friends subsequently accompanied her to another male teacher, who involved two colleagues, including the teacher responsible for safeguarding.

The teachers reportedly asked her to provide the GH¢100 note and the shorts she had worn on the day of the alleged assault as evidence.

An official from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) later collected the items from the teachers, according to the documentary.

Despite the complaint and the collection of the alleged evidence, the student said the school authorities did not report the matter to the police.

Her father eventually accompanied her to the police to report the alleged rape on August 4, more than a week after the incident.
