Government Confirms Next Public Holiday For All Ghanaians

The Ministry of the Interior has provided an update on its official website confirming the date of Ghana’s next public holiday. The information indicates that there will be no officially recognised public holidays in October or November

The next holiday on the national calendar is Friday,, which will be dedicated to the celebration of Farmers’ Day.

Farmers’ Day is observed annually to celebrate the efforts of farmers and fishers whose contributions are essential to feeding the population and strengthening Ghana’s economy. The occasion also draws attention to the importance of agriculture in promoting food security, employment, and sustainable national development.

Although Farmers’ Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of December, the 2025 observance falls on December 5. The day provides an opportunity for the country to recognise agricultural workers for their commitment to producing food and supporting livelihoods across the nation.

First introduced in 1985, Farmers’ Day was established to honour outstanding contributions to agriculture and motivate continued investment in the sector. Over the years, it has grown into a major national celebration, highlighting the relationship between agricultural productivity and Ghana’s overall economic progress.

With December 5 designated as a public holiday, people across the country will have the opportunity to participate in events and activities organised to commemorate the occasion. The holiday also serves as a reminder of the vital role played by farmers and fishers in maintaining the country’s food supply and economic resilience.

The Ministry’s update further indicates that no official public holiday is scheduled between the September celebration of Founders’ Day and the December Farmers’ Day observance. Other holidays on the national calendar will continue to be observed according to their respective schedules.

Citizens are encouraged to use the occasion to celebrate and appreciate the contributions of agricultural workers, whose efforts remain central to Ghana’s growth and development.

The early announcement is expected to help employees, students, and businesses make the necessary arrangements ahead of the holiday, while reinforcing the importance of the agricultural sector to the nation’s future prosperity.
