Ghanaians Can Travel to These Three Countries Without Visa – Okudzeto Ablakwa
Ghanaian citizens could soon enjoy greater freedom to travel internationally following Cabinet’s approval of proposed visa waiver agreements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that the agreements would enable citizens of Ghana and the three countries to undertake short-term visits without visas once the arrangements officially take effect.
The proposed deal would cover ordinary, service, and diplomatic passport holders, allowing them to stay for up to 30 days per trip without applying for visas in advance. The policy is expected to make international travel easier, minimise paperwork, and strengthen ties between the participating nations.
The agreements are also expected to create opportunities for tourism, trade, investment, education, and diplomatic cooperation. For Ghana, the initiative represents another step towards improving passport mobility and expanding international relationships.
Despite the Cabinet’s approval, the agreements are not yet effective. Ghana’s Parliament must ratify them before they can be implemented. If lawmakers give their approval, Ghanaian travellers could gain easier access to the Caribbean, South Asia, and Southern Africa through the new arrangements.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s global engagement and establish partnerships with countries in different regions. Visa waiver arrangements can also facilitate cultural exchanges, commercial activities, and closer cooperation between nations.
Authorities have also stressed that efforts to improve travel opportunities must go hand in hand with stronger passport security. They have highlighted the need for effective identity checks to prevent misuse and ensure that Ghanaian travel documents meet international standards.
The inclusion of Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia reflects Ghana’s continued interest in broadening its diplomatic partnerships beyond its traditional relationships.
Once Parliament ratifies the agreements, Ghanaian citizens could benefit from more convenient travel opportunities and closer international ties with the three partner countries.
