Former Gender Minister Cynthia Morrison Reveals The Best Candidate To Lead NPP In The 2028 Elections

Former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Cynthia Morrison has identified Kennedy Agyapong as her preferred choice to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 presidential election.

In an interview with Starr FM on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Morrison, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Agona West, said she considers the Assin Central MP the most suitable among the party’s potential contenders.

She admitted that the NPP has a number of capable figures who could take over the party’s leadership. She mentioned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr. Bryan Acheampong as some of the personalities with the experience and ability to lead the party.

Despite this, Morrison argued that Kennedy Agyapong has certain qualities that set him apart. She pointed to his confidence, honesty and close relationship with NPP supporters at the grassroots level.

She also praised his direct approach to communication, saying his ability to speak freely and interact with ordinary citizens makes him a strong candidate for the party’s flagbearership.

Morrison said Kennedy Agyapong has built a reputation as a bold and hardworking politician who is prepared to express his views without fear. She added that his experience in business and ability to motivate young people could help introduce renewed enthusiasm into the NPP.

The former minister is also hopeful that the party can return to government in 2028 if Kennedy Agyapong is given the opportunity to lead it into the election. In her view, his popularity among sections of the public and his development ideas could help the NPP regain the confidence of voters.

Her endorsement comes as the competition to become the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer continues to attract attention. Several leading members of the party, including Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Adutwum, Dr. Acheampong and Kwabena Agyepong, have shown interest in the race.

The party is scheduled to organise its flagbearer election on January 31, 2026. Morrison’s comments have added another voice to the ongoing debate over which candidate can give the NPP its strongest chance of winning the 2028 presidential election.
