Located at 1941st Fire Road in China, ME, the incident resulted in near-total destruction to the garage while causing serious structural damage to the residence.
While combatting the flames, an Albion firefighter sustained a foot injury after it was run over by one of the fire trucks. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and released.
During the incident, three horses escaped from the property and were loose for several hours before being returned to their enclosure on the property.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, however a woodstove operating inside the garage was identified as a potential ignition source.
The China Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from several neighboring fire departments in the towns of Albion, Winslow, Waterville, Sidney, Palermo, and Windsor.
