Ex-Chiefs Star Blasts Junior Motaung – “He’s Not Ready”

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Junior Khanye has come out swinging against Kaizer Motaung Junior, saying the young chief is simply not ready to run the club.

Khanye did not hold back when speaking about the current leadership at Naturena. He made it clear that he has respect for Bobby Motaung, who used to manage the day-to-day affairs of the team. According to Khanye, Bobby was hands-on, listened to senior players, and always made time for problems.

“When I was there, he was very involved as the general manager,” Khanye said. “He is human and has his own personality, but when talking to someone, he would give them an honest ear.”

The former midfielder is far less convinced about Kaizer Junior. He played with him and now questions whether Junior can properly connect with people around him. “With Junior, I played with him, and I am not sure he was ready to manage the team. You have to be able to interact with the people. Can he listen to someone else’s opinion?”

Khanye believes Chiefs should learn from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, who engage with supporters after every match. He feels Amakhosi fans should also have a voice in how the club is run.

His biggest suggestion is simple: bring in an outsider with a clear three-year plan and judge that person on results. Khanye does not believe Junior is ready for that kind of accountability.

He also criticised several of Junior’s recent decisions, including the appointment of the current coach and the way the Andile Jali situation was handled. Khanye said Junior’s comments about Jali showed arrogance. He further questioned the release of Thabo Cele while keeping Sibongiseni Mthethwa, arguing that Cele was the better player.

Khanye’s message is clear – Kaizer Chiefs need stronger leadership and better player choices if the club wants to return to its winning ways.
