Edwin Sifuna Reacts Hours After Meeting Gachagua at Wamunyoro Residence
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has drawn attention to the need for unity among political leaders following his meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
The meeting has sparked political debate over the possibility of closer cooperation between leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement and Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as the country gradually approaches the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna’s engagement with Gachagua comes at a time when opposition figures are exploring ways of working together to challenge President William Ruto in the next electoral contest.
Gachagua welcomed Sifuna and his delegation to his residence, describing the visitors as cousins from Linda Mwananchi. His remarks were interpreted as a positive signal towards building relationships across different political camps.
The delegation reportedly included Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Linda Mwananchi communications head Pauline Njoroge, among other leaders.
The gathering has attracted considerable interest because Sifuna and Gachagua have increasingly featured in discussions about the future direction of Kenya’s opposition politics.
Although the two leaders operate within different political formations, their meeting has raised questions about whether they could find common ground on issues affecting Kenyans and the country’s political leadership.
DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has previously expressed support for cooperation between the two political camps, arguing that unity could strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
However, the meeting alone does not establish that a formal coalition has been agreed upon. Details regarding possible power-sharing arrangements, a joint presidential candidate or a common political programme remain unclear.
The engagement nevertheless comes at a significant moment as politicians begin positioning themselves for the next general election.
Kenyans will now be watching to see whether the meeting at Wamunyoro marks the beginning of a lasting political partnership or remains a consultative engagement among leaders seeking a common direction.
