Cristiano Ronaldo fined €255, suspended 30 days after Portugal walk-out
According to a report by Mirror Football on Monday October 19, 2026, Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days by the Portuguese Football Federation and fined €255 (£214) following his departure from Portugal’s national team camp during the recent international break.
The Al-Nassr forward reportedly walked out of the squad after a disagreement with new Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the team.
The incident occurred in Copenhagen ahead of Portugal’s match against Denmark, with Ronaldo allegedly frustrated after being left as an unused substitute during the game against Norway.
According to reports, the 41-year-old accused Jesus of breaking his promises regarding his involvement in the team on two occasions, leading to tensions between the pair.
Ronaldo later apologised for failing to acknowledge supporters after the Norway match and for leaving his teammates. He also indicated that he was willing to accept any punishment imposed by the federation.
The Portuguese FA provisionally suspended the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star on October 9 before confirming the latest disciplinary measures.
However, uncertainty remains over whether the 30-day ban will affect Portugal’s upcoming Nations League fixtures, including their scheduled encounter with Denmark on November 14. The federation has yet to clarify whether the period already served under the provisional suspension will count towards the final sanction.
Despite the disagreement, Ronaldo has indicated that he intends to continue representing Portugal. The country’s most-capped men’s international, with 234 appearances, has also promised supporters that he will have one or more farewell matches before ending his international career.
Portugal president Pedro Proença has reportedly expressed the federation’s desire to welcome Ronaldo back once the disciplinary matter has been resolved.
Meanwhile, Jesus has made an encouraging start to his tenure, winning his first four matches in charge. The coach will now face the challenge of resolving the situation while maintaining discipline and preparing Portugal for their upcoming fixtures.
