Captain Smart Urges NPP to Consider New Presidential Candidate, Calls on Bawumia to Retire

Ghanaian media personality Captain Smart has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider a different candidate for its next presidential election, arguing that the party should look beyond former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In comments attributed to the broadcaster, Captain Smart urged the NPP to search for a candidate he believes could offer a better option for the party’s presidential ambitions. He also called on Bawumia to retire from the presidential race and allow the party to consider alternative leadership.

The remarks have added to the ongoing debate within the NPP about its future leadership, electoral strategy and the choice of a candidate capable of representing the party in the next general election.

Bawumia, who served as Vice President under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been one of the prominent figures in the party’s political leadership. His role in the NPP and his previous presidential campaign have made his political future a subject of discussion among party members, supporters and political commentators.

Captain Smart’s comments reflect a wider conversation about whether the party should maintain continuity with familiar leadership or explore new options as it considers its future direction.

The selection of a presidential candidate is a significant decision for any political party, involving considerations such as internal support, policy priorities, public perception and the ability to present a clear alternative to voters.

However, the broadcaster’s call represents his own position, and it does not by itself establish the wider opinion of NPP members or supporters. The party’s eventual choice will depend on its internal processes and the decisions of its delegates.

The comments are likely to generate further discussion among political observers and party supporters as the NPP continues to assess its leadership and preparations for future electoral contests.
