BAT: He Asked Me, What Does It Take To Win Oyo North, I Said β€œWe Need 3 Things, You Gave Us 1-Buhari

Senator Abdulfatai Buhari has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that two additional projects are needed to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chances of winning Oyo North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, after acknowledging that the president has already fulfilled one of his major demands.

Buhari made this known during an interview with Arise News on Monday, October 19, 2026, while recounting a conversation in which Tinubu reportedly asked him what was required to mobilise support for the president’s re-election and secure the senator’s return to the National Assembly.

According to Buhari, Tinubu specifically asked what it would take to improve the APC’s chances in Oyo North. The senator said he saw the question as an opportunity to explain the key developmental needs of his constituency and outline the projects he believed could help strengthen the party’s position in the district.

Recounting the exchange, Buhari said he informed the president that he had identified three major needs that could help him deliver Oyo North for the APC, adding that one of the requests had already been addressed.

He stated, β€œHe asked me, what does it take particularly in your senatorial district, Oyo North. Immediately I saw that open penalty when the president said that. I said, Sir, we need only three things for me in particular to deliver our Oyo North and you have already given us one, remain two.”

Buhari explained that Tinubu subsequently asked him to identify the specific demands. In response, the senator recalled the challenges he faced when he first sought election to the Senate, particularly the shortage of federal educational institutions in the area.

According to him, Oyo North lacked even a federal government secondary school when he began his political journey in the district, making access to federally funded educational facilities one of the concerns he wanted the government to address.

He recalled telling the president, β€œSir, when I was contesting for Senate, we didn’t even have a federal government secondary school, not to talk of university.”

The senator’s remarks follow his earlier account of how Tinubu signed the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture in Oke-Ogun, Oyo State, after a similar proposal was not approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari has identified the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Oyo and the creation of a military formation in Ogbomoso as the two outstanding requests he wants the president to address.

He believes the projects would help improve healthcare access and strengthen security in the senatorial district.

His comments highlight how constituency development projects are becoming part of political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections, as elected officials seek to demonstrate achievements and present further demands to the federal government.
