Andrew Boraston's son Tim was 22 when he died after a car crash on the A389 in 2022, and last year Darren Endean's 18-year-old son Kyle died in a car crash just outside their village.

The two musicians are next-door neighbours in the village of Lerryn, near Lostwithiel, Cornwall.

They perform a song written by Darren called Two Lost Souls, which he said captured the impact the boys' deaths had on their extended family and the wider community. He described the aftermath of their loss as being "like a tsunami".

"At around 03:30 in the morning I got a knock on the door and there was [sic] two police officers on my doorstep," said Andrew of the night Tim died.

"I let them in and they told me that my oldest son Timmy had died in a car crash on the A390.

"I was just in total shock, I couldn't cry and when the police left I was left in a daze, I didn't know what to do, it didn't hit me 'til the morning.

"Timmy was a great kid, he worked in the local pub , he made friends with everyone he met.

"I hope when people, especially the youngsters hear about this song, they might think twice about the way they drive, just to be a bit more careful."

Andrew's son Tim died in July 2022, near the village. An inquest found the crash was caused by a steering failure in the car he was driving.

Andrew said as well as promoting safe driving he hoped it would encourage people to check their cars are roadworthy.

Darren's son Kyle and the other occupant of a blue Mini Cooper died in October 2025, also in an accident close to the village.

The inquests into their deaths are yet to take place.

Andrew and Darren have been best friends for about 30 years and had retired from playing live music, as it took up too much of their time, but have now reformed as The Lost Boyz in memory of their sons.

The song Two Lost Souls and tour is raising funds for the road safety charity Brake.

Darren said of their song: "It's not just about the loss of these two young lads it's about the effect it has on the whole community , the effect on the mental health of all their siblings, the grandparents and everyone else in the community.

"The carnage that it leaves behind is unimaginable, the wake of it is like a tsunami."

He added: "It's difficult going to and from work because every time we leave the village we have to pass the spot where Kyle died,"
