Woman sparks debate as she confesses to poking airplane seatmate with EARRING after he invaded her space

A woman’s shocking tactic to keep her airplane seatmate from invading her space has sparked a fierce debate online.

Last week, a man named Otto took to X to share his outrage after he claimed that the woman sitting next to him on a recent flight had pushed the back of her earring through her sweater on her arm and left it sticking out so that it would ‘poke’ him should he get too close to her.

He claimed she ‘installed the earring’ after she became ‘angry’ that he ‘used the armrest before takeoff’ and said he was stabbed by the jewelry during turbulence.

However, the woman, named Kadia Tubman, has now come forward, claiming she put the earring through her shirt after he touched her multiple times – and the situation has completely divided the internet.

‘Met a very passive aggressive passenger on @Delta today. Immediately angry about my using the armrest before takeoff,’ Otto began in the now-viral post.

‘She installed an earring on her sleeve to poke me. I didn’t mind ’till the turbulence when it stabbed me.

‘I calmly asked her to remove it, she wouldn’t, and told me I was taking up too much of my seat ’cause I’m a man.’

‘This legal? Also, how do people get like this?’ he wondered.

Otto included a snap that showed the woman sitting on the airplane wearing a blue sweater, gray sweatpants and a pair of headphones. A silver earring was seen sticking out of the sweater.

In a follow-up post, Otto said he notified the flight attendant upon landing, who ‘did not tell the woman to remove the earring,’ but instead, asked him to wait at the gate after disembarking.

‘I had to get to work and did not want to wait around with the passive aggressor,’ he added.

He also joked that he was ‘initially very impressed’ with the woman’s ‘solution,’ that is, until he was poked with it.

After Otto’s post went viral, Tubman shared her side of the story on Instagram.

She posted a selfie from the airport as she explained in a lengthy caption that when she first arrived at the seat, Otto’s laptop was resting on the armrest between them.

‘I let it be because he was working. When I settled into the aisle seat I leaned against the arm rest but didn’t put my arm on it because he was all over it,’ she wrote. ‘He took up more space, past the arm rest boundary.’

She went on to claim that during the flight, Otto ‘kept rubbing against her arm’ and ‘kept lifting [the armrest] up and waking [her] up.’

‘I politely told him and demonstrated how his arm was hitting me. He said there was no space,’ she continued.

‘I said I understood and that’s why I let him take up the entire armrest to work. He moved over but after a little while he shifted back. I pointed it out once again and fell asleep… until I was awakened by his arm.’

She said at that point she was ‘done’ so she ‘took off her earring and put it on her sleeve.’

‘He would’ve had to be so close to me to be poked,’ she pointed out. ‘Like come on now.’

Tubman said after Otto got poked, he furiously described her earring as a ‘weapon’ and threatened to ‘get his lawyer involved.’

‘He demanded I remove my earring. When I refused, he asked if it was necessary and I said, “Yes, clearly because you finally stopped touching me,”‘ she added.

‘He ignored my explanation and called the flight attendant … By this time he’d fully repositioned himself in the seat, nudged between the chair and the window – a position he could have sat in the whole time.’

Tubman claimed that when the flight attendant came over, Otto ‘changed his story’ and claimed she was ‘leaning over in the seat and stabbing him during turbulence.’

‘I looked that woman in her eyes and said, “He’s not telling the truth and I would be happy to speak with him and the captain or staff at the gate.” She agreed we’d wait to get to the gate,’ Tubman wrote.

‘I got off the plane first and waited for him. He walked past me. I said, “Sir, sir.” He kept walking. I waited for the captain and eventually left.’

The incident sparked a furious argument between social media users, as some took her side and some took his.

One person described Tubman as ‘next level insane’ for the move, while others hailed it as genius.

‘Her arm is in her lap. If the earring poked you then you’re definitely stretched into her space and are in the wrong,’ one person replied to Otto’s post.

‘If you were close enough to be poked by that earring then you’re the problem lol,’ another agreed.

‘She is clearly well within her seat. You had to of been spilling over into hers if that was poking you. I wouldn’t like it either. I don’t want to touch you. The earring is a bit much, but she has a point,’ someone else pointed out.

‘That is not a nice person. I’m sure it’s skirting the line of legality since she did it with the intent to harm, where a simple conversation would suffice,’ a different user wrote about Tubman.

‘She needs to go to jail. This is not okay,’ a fifth post read.
